Onboarding & first-use guidance
A welcoming pose, step feedback and a completion reaction can help explain the first useful action. Keep instructions and skip controls in accessible app UI.
Hire a freelance Rive animator to design and animate an app mascot that welcomes, guides and responds. Custom characters, interactive states and a clear handoff for your developers.

LIVE RIVE PREVIEW01 / PRODUCT MOMENTS
From the first welcome to the next milestone, give each reaction a useful role.
A welcoming pose, step feedback and a completion reaction can help explain the first useful action. Keep instructions and skip controls in accessible app UI.
Plan curious, encouraging and retry expressions around the lesson. For voice products, define listening, thinking and speaking as distinct activity states.
Build a calm companion for routines and milestones. Agree reward frequency, interruption rules and a supportive response when a goal is missed.
Let your application confirm an earned reward before requesting its celebration. Define priority when several milestones arrive together.
Give waiting and recovery their own behavior. A long request needs a quiet loop; a failed request needs a clear retry action alongside the character.
Match expression, silhouette and motion to your brand and audience. Design for the small in-app placement where the mascot will actually appear.
02 / CHARACTER DESIGN
Send editable vector artwork, brand references and the poses you need. I review separated parts, mouth and eye shapes, pivots and the intended motion range before scoping cleanup and rigging.
Existing artwork is useful when your brand already has a character. A production review establishes whether it is ready for animation or needs additional preparation.
Start with your product, audience and character direction. We agree the design, expressions and rig requirements before building the animation states.
Custom design packages include one agreed character design. Editable artwork, usage rights, revision rounds and additional designs are defined in the project scope.
03 / INTERACTION
The application owns progress, validation and conversation state. The Rive asset turns the agreed values or events into a visual response through a State Machine and, where supported, data-bound properties.
| Application event | Planned character response | Behavior to agree |
|---|---|---|
| Screen opens | Default idle or short welcome | Whether greeting repeats on a return visit |
| A request begins | Waiting or thinking behavior | What happens on timeout or cancellation |
| A task completes | Acknowledgement or celebration | Priority if a new event arrives immediately |
| Validation fails | Helpful retry reaction | Return to neutral after recovery |
| Voice playback starts or stops | Speaking behavior and mouth reset | Audio-level data or timed viseme mapping |
These are planning examples, not universal input names. Your control reference documents the exact names, types, ranges, defaults and reset rules used in the delivered file.
When a character speaks and shows emotion at the same time, separate activity, expression and gaze where needed. This helps a speech change preserve the intended facial expression.

The agreed .riv export, organized artboards, character rig and animation states. Editable artwork and source access are supplied as defined in the written scope.
State Machine inputs or ViewModel properties, their types and defaults, event mapping, interruption priorities and reset behavior. Include animation events where the project uses them.
Confirm the SDK version, file features, screen size and acceptance checks. Integration support and representative-device testing responsibilities are agreed before production.
Delivery can target Flutter, React Native, React and web apps, or supported iOS and Android runtimes. Feature availability varies by runtime and version, so compatibility is checked against your actual stack.
Your development team connects the asset to app logic, authentication, data, audio and AI services. This service focuses on character design, interactive animation and developer handoff. Read the handoff checklist before integration.
06 / MOBILE FIRST
Motion should be purposeful and brief enough to support the task. A user should be able to continue using the app while a nonessential reaction finishes.
07 / STARTING PACKAGES
Choose an artwork-led starter or a custom character. Expand the behavior as your product needs it.
One character, idle plus one extra state, basic State Machine setup and .riv source delivery.
Estimate with existing artwork →Minimum animation package with one custom character design included. Additional custom designs are quoted separately.
Plan a custom character →Viseme setup is added after any custom-design minimum.
Review the pricing formula →A standard one-character, two-state package is estimated at 7–10 days, subject to artwork, approvals and availability. Larger scopes and additional talking characters need a confirmed quote and schedule.
08 / HOW IT WORKS
09 / GOOD TO KNOW
Yes. Send editable artwork and the movement you need. I review layer separation, rig readiness and required cleanup before confirming the scope.
Yes. We map your application events to the delivered State Machine inputs or data-bound properties. The scope defines priority, interruption and the return to idle.
The target runtime, SDK version and exported file features are reviewed together. I prepare the agreed asset and handoff for supported runtimes; compatibility is confirmed for your project rather than assumed for every platform.
Listening, thinking and speaking behavior can be scoped. For mouth motion, your application supplies normalized audio level or timed viseme data. Voice generation, speech recognition and AI backend development are separate responsibilities.
The scope includes the agreed .riv export and control reference. Editable artwork, project/source access, usage rights, revision rounds and integration support are confirmed in writing.
The starter is $250 with client-supplied artwork, one character and two states. A custom-design animation package has a $650 minimum. Extra states add $100 per character; viseme setup adds $350 for one talking character after the design minimum.
Send a product link or description, artwork status, target platform and runtime version, required states, interaction examples, budget and preferred deadline. Screenshots of the mascot placement help define safe areas and expression size.
